All are limited in use, with a couple of options accessible at any one time. Again, you’re looking at lasers, homing missiles, electrifying fields and the like. Further weapons come about, picked up on the fly, attaching themselves to your little ship. A hold of the A button fires out an unlimited supply of front facing bullets, each of which needs to hit the target. That ship starts off as a weedy little gunner. Reflexes entirely dictating your success. With a shield that is diminished with every hit, and a health bar which drains even more rapidly, Nova Strike is generic shoot ‘ em up fun. Flying around the procedurally generated screens can be a joy, dodging the hundreds and thousands of bullets that come your way. Shooting them rewards in terms of cash and resources, both of which can be used to enhance your ship, your weaponry, your shields and more. In your way are enemies, as you’d expect. Taking charge of a tiny little ship, it’s your job to navigate your way north, up the screen in order to reach an end portal. That’s not to say it hasn’t absolutely kicked our ass. In fact, we got a teeny tiny bit addicted. But slowly and surely Nova Strike clicked, to the point where we enjoyed the blast, urged on by new opportunities. Amplified by the second and third attempts. In particular there is that one setup32 utility that is a must.Īlso, what is very neat is Dosbox isn't required, at all, to play it.Įdited by Mister Blastman, 02 August 2014 - 06:55 PM.Nova Strike – a new vertical scrolling SHMUPĪ little bit of us sighed when the chance came to take in a run. Getting it to run isn't too bad but requires some special "tools," as mentioned in the install instructions I posted for the Mech 2 3dfx version. If it had it, it surely would have been a solid contender with Mechwarrior 2. I think what shot it in the foot was the lack of multiplayer. There's even one that literally shoots lightning bolts. The weapons are different enough and very interesting. Not only do you have 'mechs, but you also have quad-mechs and aerospace. The gameplay is really nifty, actually, and well worth a go if you've never experienced it. Very playable, otherwise, with minimal CTDs. I couldn't get Mercenaries to work at over 640*480.though I think the Titanium version was locked at that, from what I read.
